Mullen Hall School
September 13th, 2024
Dear Mullen-Hall Families,
Another amazing week! We had our first fire drill and all safety protocols were followed by our students!
In our cafeteria this week we had a dish called Feijado! Feijoada is a common name given to dishes from Portuguese-speaking countries such as Portugal, Brazil, Angola, East Timor, Mozambique, and Macau, where it is made from a mixture of meat and white, black, or red beans, usually accompanied by rice. It was enjoyed by ALL our Clippers!
Mrs. Do, our school librarian will be displaying a variety of books each month reflecting the diversity of our school culture. This month’s books will have the theme of Back to School & Community Building and Hispanic Heritage (Sept 15- Oct 15).
MUST DO:
Returning families must update the four returning forms and the General Permission Form.
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures:
Arrival Procedure for Parent Drop Off
· Please pull up to the designated spots in front of the school, and our “Morning
Greeters” will guide your child to their entrance
· Grade K,1 & 2 students enter at the gym doors
· Grades 3&4 students enter at the front door
· Please remain in your car as it slows things down when adults are getting in and
out of the car.
· Please have your child sitting on the drop-off side of your vehicle, if possible.
School begins at 9:05 every morning.
If your student arrives later than 9:05 please have them go to the front door and ring
the bell.
Dismissal Procedure for Parent Drop Off
· Have your child’s dismissal number card visible on the
dashboard of your car (your child brought this home on
the first day.)
· Staff members will be at designated spots to guide
you through the parking lot
· Please pull down to the farthest point in the lane.
· If your child uses a car seat it’s helpful if that is
positioned on the drop off/pick up side of the car.
Please remain in your car as it slows things down when adults are getting in and
out of the car.
Please be patient!
Cars can NOT park/wait on Hamlin Ave.
As we start, a “Traffic Flagger” will direct traffic at Dillingham/Hamlin.
The first cars to the school will fill the Vehicle Pick-Up lane.
When the lane is full, all vehicles need to wait on Dillingham Ave Ext.
Staff will notify the traffic flagger when to send waiting cars to the vehicle lane.
Please help this dismissal procedure by moving all the way forward in the vehicle lane.
As much as we can fill this lane, the dismissal procedure moves safely and efficiently.
It is suggested that you enter the Dillingham Ave Ext from Lakeview Drive.
Dismissal Procedure for Walkers
· All walkers are released through the front door. Staff
will make the connection with adults picking up. Please
have dismissal number cards.

NEWS FROM MARTHA’S VINEYARD BANKING:
The Martha's Vineyard Bank School Savings Banking program begins on Friday September 27th! Student bankers bring their deposits to the cafeteria on Friday mornings at 9:15am and their money is deposited into their very own MV Bank savings account. After making their deposit they take home a small prize, answer the money related question of the week, and enter their name in for the weekly drawing. Last year our Mullen-Hall student bankers collectively saved a total of $8,655 and learned the important lesson of saving for their future!
You can click this link for more information about the program and additional information is attached in the flyers: https://ww2.schoolsavings.com/
Our banking affiliate does not allow online sign-ups so students must sign-up in person. Please keep an eye out for the application which will be coming home next week. If you are interested in participating please fill out the form and have your child bring it into school on any Friday starting Sept 27th, along with their first deposit. Deposits can be in the form of checks or cash, including coins. If your student is a returning banker from last year their account is still active and your child can just come in with their first deposit.
We look forward to seeing new and returning student bankers in two weeks!

CHOIR SIGN-UP INFORMATION
4th Grade Band Information:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to offer your child the opportunity to play a musical instrument.
The 4th grade instrumental music program is a valued and integral part of the curriculum in the Falmouth Public Schools. Studying a musical instrument is rewarding, fun and has a positive impact on your child’s development that will last a lifetime. It develops responsibility, self-discipline, concentration, self-confidence, creativity and a lifelong appreciation of music.
We demonstrated the instrument options this week to all 4th graders, during school.
The lesson program will begin in October. For more information, just reference your school Calendar for specific dates and details.
Instruction will be provided by a certified music teacher with the assistance of qualified and responsible Falmouth High School students. The only cost to you is the rental or purchase of an instrument and the method book. Parents are responsible for their students’ transportation to and/or from rehearsal. Students must be dropped off or picked up promptly unless other arrangements have been made.
Lessons starting Sept 30 - Oct 4

Through a bid process, Music & Arts was selected by the Falmouth Public Schools to offer a rental plan as a convenience to you. However, you may acquire an instrument, new or used, from any source. It is important that all students have the method book “Standard of Excellence” Book 1 (With CD). This book can be purchased on the rental site, online at Music & Arts. There is also a limited supply of school-owned instruments that students with financial hardships may use. Please email Mr. Steven Edwards to discuss this.
If you would like your student to participate in the program, please click the links and...

The impact of music education on children is profound.
Music does more than just make sounds, it changes the way we think and act. The skills your child will learn in music will help them be successful on the stage, in the classroom, and for the rest of their lives.
